Welcome to The BRICS Institute, India

India is the founding member of BRIC (BRICS in 2010), and it rightly deserved this membership as per the economist Jim’O’Neil. Later BRICS developed into more than an economic platform as it exapanded into a 11 member grouping (2026). In India there was no single research institute focused on the research and development of BRICS as an global institution. Hence we decided to take this initiative and group together with like minded scholars to create a new think tank.

Based out of New Delhi, the BRICS Institute is founded by young scholars and academicians from India to promote academic and policy research, civil society cooperation among BRICS members. We are ready to take the new challenges posed by the emerging new world order. India views BRICS as a platform to promote a multipolar world order—reducing the dominance of Western powers (especially the G7). It strengthens India’s voice in global affairs and gives it more bargaining power at international forums like the UN, WTO, and IMF. BRICS facilitates increased Trade & investment among member countries ( intra BRICS trading rising faster). It also got access to alternative financing through the New Development Bank (NDB), which India co-founded.

We started the institute in 2015 in New Delhi, with the help of our retired diplomats and academicians form JNU, DU, University of Mysore, and Patna University and other major national universities colleagues in India. Dr. BINOD Singh Ajatshatru is currently the research director. Before joining BRICS Institute, he was a full-time faculty atPeking University in China. He is a public intellectual and very often sought after for his current affairs insights in global media platforms. He represents India at the BRICS Civil Council.

BRICS Institute is a platform that brings together a broad range of societal organizations from BRICS countries to engage in dialogue, collaboration, and advocacy on key social, economic, and developmental issues. It serves as a vital link between citizens of BRICS nations and governments, fostering a more inclusive and participatory approach to Global justice, governance and peaceful development.

The BRICS Institute is an India-based in New Delhi with representative chapters in Moscow, Dubai and Beijing. We are open to coordinate with scholars of International Relations from all the BRICS plus and partner countries. Our think tank’s aim is to promote intercultural dialogue and increase mutual understanding among nation states and their people.

We encourage strengthening ties between civil society of BRICS countries. We welcome participation even from non-BRICS member countries to contribute positively for building a better world and everlasting peace.
